How do I use Web Controls?

There are three ways to control how You.com searches the web for you:

  1. Web Access ON or OFF: You can choose whether you want to use the web as a source at all.
  2. Web Access Automatic or Advanced: You can choose to let You.com figure out the best sources for you, or you can control what You.com searches.
  3. Web Access Advanced Options: You can specify or block URLs, as well as control how You.com searches the web.

If Web Access is Off, what does that mean?

This means that you are relying only on the underlying knowledge of the AI model (and any files you upload, if any). The AI will not use any web results in generating responses.

This setting is ideal for creative writing, or any other use case where you prefer not to use real-time web data.

If Web Access is Automatic, what does that mean?

This is our default setting, which will let You.com find the best web sources for your query. The AI will automatically search the web to find relevant sources without any additional input from you.

What does Search Depth mean?

Search Depth is our way of letting you configure how we process web search results. The default is ‘Quick’, which is often enough for most queries. However, if you ever find that you need more context to be considered for your query, try ‘Deep search’. Dynamic lets You.com figure out when to use Quick versus Deep.

  • Dynamic: Starts quick, goes deeper if needed.
  • Quick (default): Scans snippets only for the fastest results.
  • Deep: Browses full-page content for thorough results.

Note: Dynamic or Deep searches may take longer but provide more detailed information.

What does adding a custom web source do?

You can add up to 10 web URLs on the Pro plan and 20 web URLs on the Team plan for You.com to search as sources.

  • To search an entire website: Enter the domain address.
  • To search a specific page or subdirectory: Enter its URL.

If you uncheck the box for "Let You.com search the web for additional sources", then we will only search through the URL domains or pages that you provide.

Example Use Cases:

  • Academic Research: Focus on trusted journals or university websites.
  • Company Analysis: Limit searches to official company pages.
  • Personal Interests: Search through favorite blogs or forums.

What does excluding a web source do?

You can block web sources that you do not want considered.

By adding URLs to the exclusion list, the AI will not consider information from these sources when generating responses.

Benefits:

  • Avoid Irrelevant Content: Filter out sites that don't meet your standards or relevance.
  • Control Biases: Remove sources that may present biased information.

What are integrations?

To further enhance your productivity, we're excited to announce upcoming integration features with cloud storage providers and premium datasets.

Stay Tuned: These features are coming soon and will make your interactions with You.com even more powerful!
