You.com now empowers users to connect with and manage their own Custom Agents via API. This feature is designed to make it easy for both individual users and organizations to integrate You.com’s AI agents into their workflows, tools, and applications. Who Can Use Custom Agents via API?

- In the You.com App:
Look for the “Connect via API” button on your agent’s details page, in the agent library’s “More” menu, or in the edit agent modal. Clicking this opens the agent’s details in you.platform in a new tab.
- In You.Platform:
Navigate to the Agents tab to see a list of agents you own. Here, you can create API keys, view sample code (e.g., cURL requests), and manage your agents.
Note: The Agents tab is hidden for non-admin Team and Enterprise users.
Step-by-Step: Creating and Connecting to a Custom Agent via API
1. Create Your Custom Agent
- Use the standard agent creation flow in You.com.
- Once created, you’ll see a confirmation and a prompt to open the agent’s details page.
2. Access API Management
- Click “Connect via API” to open the agent’s details in you.platform.
- In the Agents tab, select your agent to view API connection details.
3. Generate an API Key
- If you don’t have an API key, you’ll be prompted to create one.
- Only API keys created by the agent’s owner/creator will work for that agent.
4. Use the Sample Code
- Copy the provided cURL request or sample code to start making API calls to your agent.

Only the creator/owner of an agent can connect to it via API by default. - (Coming soon) Team/Enterprise Admins:
In the near future, Team and Enterprise Admins will be able to designate other users to have developer access, allowing them to manage and connect to agents via API.
