How do I enable Zero Data Retention and No Model Training for my You.com Team Plan?

Learn how to enhance your team's privacy and data protection.

As a team admin on you.com, you have the power to enhance your team's privacy and data protection. This guide will walk you through enabling two important features: Zero Data Retention (ZDR) and No Model Training.

Step 1: Accessing the Privacy Tab

  1. Log into your you.com account as a Team Admin
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Go to “Privacy”

Step 2: Understanding the Options

In “Privacy”, you'll see two options:

  1. Enable No Model Training
  2. Enable Zero Data Retention

By default, these options are turned off for new Team Plans.

Step 3: Enabling No Model Training

  1. Turn on the "Enable No Model Training" toggle

Note: This prevents any AI models used on you.com from using your team's queries and inputs to train their future models.

Step 4: Enabling Zero Data Retention (ZDR)

  1. Turn on the "Enable Zero Data Retention" toggle

Note: This ensures that third-party AI providers (specifically OpenAI, Meta, Mistral, and Anthropic) will not retain your team's data beyond what's necessary to provide the requested service.

ZDR

Step 5: Understanding the Impact

After enabling these features:

  1. You.com will only store your team's data (files, chats, agents) for you, to provide the service.
  2. Your team members will only have access to AI models from OpenAI, Meta, Mistral, and Anthropic, which comply with the ZDR agreement.
  3. Other AI models (e.g., Gemini, Grok) will no longer be available to your team members.

Step 6: Verifying the Changes

  1. After enabling the features, refresh your you.com page.
  2. Start a new chat
  3. Check the list of available AI models

Note: You will only see models from OpenAI (O1s, GPTs), Meta (Llamas), Mistral, and Anthropic (Claude family).

Benefits

  • Ideal for businesses in highly regulated industries (e.g., legal, healthcare, finance)
  • Reduces risks associated with handling sensitive client or customer information
  • Allows the use of AI while maintaining strict data privacy standards

By following these steps, you can ensure that your team's use of AI on you.com aligns with your organization's privacy and compliance requirements.

What do we mean by “ZDR” on you.com?

For you.com, Zero Data Retention (“ZDR”) means that no customer data is retained unnecessarily beyond the time needed to complete the query for which the customer data is provided. We have ZDR agreements in place with certain Third Party Services (currently, Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, and OpenAI) (“ZDTPS”). Our ZDR means that customers may opt to have their input and output not retained if processed by ZDTPS when using the Team or Enterprise Plans. For the avoidance of doubt, ZDR does not mean that absolutely no data is retained. You.com and ZDTPS may still retain metadata, such as classifier types, dates, counts and confidence scores, but with anonymous identifiers. In addition, you.com, as well as all LLMs, retain data for trust and safety purposes, such as to monitor abuse, malicious use, violation of law or illegal activities. Customer acknowledges and agrees that you.com may use subprocessors prior to having inputs or queries processed by such ZDTPS, and these subprocessors’ policies on ZDR may vary.

What do we mean by “No Model Training” on you.com?

The No Model Training feature on You.com is designed to ensure that your team's data and interactions with AI models are not used to train or improve those models. This feature is particularly valuable for organizations that prioritize data privacy and compliance.

When the No Model Training option is enabled, any queries, inputs, or interactions your team has with the AI models on You.com are excluded from the datasets used for training future versions of those models. This means that the AI models will not learn from or adapt based on your team's specific usage patterns or data. Instead, the models will operate solely based on their pre-existing training and capabilities, ensuring that your data remains private and is not incorporated into the AI's learning process.

How No Model Training Differs from Zero Data Retention

While No Model Training ensures that your data is not used to improve AI models, it is distinct from Zero Data Retention (ZDR). ZDR focuses on ensuring that third-party AI providers do not retain your data beyond what is necessary to complete the requested service. Together, these features provide a robust framework for maintaining data privacy and security while using AI tools.
